For the last leg of our journey, from Guayaquil to Montanita, we took a bus. This was an eye opener. A taxi took us to the bus terminal, which was this a grand building that could have been mistaken for an airport. There were even modest security checks to ensure that only those with tickets could access the bus area. Our bus left right on time, after we checked our bags and received bag receipts. The bus was very comfy with huge windows, tip back seats, a movie, and a rest-room. It went direct with almost no stops and it went fast. What was astonishing was that the 2.5 hour 200 mile journey cost us $5.50 each! We thought there’d been a mistake. Take away: buses are the way to go in Ecuador. By the way, we never encountered another tourist who had rented a car.
