At Zapato Amarillo, we met two Swiss motorcyclists
who were driving from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego and then north to Buenos Aires. They’d flown their motorcycles from Switzerland to Alaska – evidently air shipping a motorcycle costs about twice as much as an airline seat. On their trip, they found a gap of about 100 miles between Panama and Columbia where there is no road. Evidently the road was removed to discourage drug trade. To get around this gap they put their bikes on a big cargo sailboat. The worst part of their trip was Baja. Evidently they hadn’t understood the nature of Baja and failed to carry water or camping gear.
