A Quick Dip into Portugal

We had wanted to spend a little time in Portugal after hearing of its beauty and relaxed ambiance.

The border with Spain is very close to Santiago de Compostela, so we headed south, expecting to stay in Portugal for awhile. As it turned out, we only got as far south as Porto. The weather turned to cold rainy downpours, so we stayed just a short time. But Porto turned out to be a really nice surprise. It’s a city with character, nice art and architecture, great food and PORT. In spite of the rain, we enjoyed walking the city streets, exploring the landmarks, hiking up to the top of the tallest bridge and the tallest tower in town and serendipitously finding restaurants that offered intriguing and well-prepared seafood, salads, desserts, and of course, PORT! A charming city, worth a visit if you go to Portugal. Maybe on our next trip to the Iberian peninsula, we will start with Portugal during a sunnier season!
